Pramono Signs 50% Film Tax Discount Regulation, Invites Production Houses to Shoot in Jakarta

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has signed a gubernatorial regulation providing tax relief for certain goods and services in the arts and entertainment sector, including cinema film screenings. A 50 percent reduction is granted. “This is Gubernatorial Regulation Number 531 of 2026 concerning the provision of principal tax relief and certain services for national entertainment arts services and film screenings,” Pramono said on Jalan Rasuna Said, Jakarta, Sunday (21/6/2026). The regulation was signed as part of efforts to build Jakarta into a cinema city. The decision was taken by Pramono after discussions with relevant parties. “This decision came after we held lengthy discussions with the association of film producers and the association of cinema entrepreneurs throughout Indonesia,” he said. In detail, the 50 percent relief serves as an incentive for production houses. It is hoped this relief will attract many filmmakers to shoot in Jakarta. “The 50 percent relief on the national film screening tax can become an incentive for production houses, so it is returned to production houses to encourage more film production, especially to invite them to shoot and capture images in Jakarta,” he stated. “And the 50 percent tax that goes to the Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency will be used entirely for the film ecosystem, both for infrastructure development and programmes to strengthen national films,” he added.
