Pramono sees JEFF 2026 as a reminder to improve waste management

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has interpreted the Jakarta Eco Future Festival (JEFF) 2026 as a reminder of the city’s responsibility as a global metropolis to continuously improve its waste management. “Today, I officially opened JEFF 2026. This serves as a reminder that Jakarta, as a global city, a national economic centre, and also the nation’s capital, is responsible for itself, for Jakarta, to improve waste management in the city,” Pramono said at City Hall on Friday. According to Pram, his nickname, waste management is one of the main challenges that must be resolved collaboratively between the government, the business sector, and the public. Therefore, JEFF 2026 is expected to be a platform to raise public awareness while encouraging the birth of various innovations in environmental management. Pramono believes that changing public behaviour in reducing and sorting waste at the source is an important step towards realising a cleaner and more sustainable Jakarta. He also expressed gratitude that the activity was supported by community groups. “One of them is that we received a MURI record because almost 6,336 eco enzymes participated in this movement, and this follows up on the Governor’s Instruction that has been issued by the Governor of DKI Jakarta so that this movement becomes massive,” said Pramono. On the occasion, he also launched the City Hall Waste Bank as a form of commitment to change initiated by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. “I believe that this movement is not just about getting a MURI record, what is more important is the implementation on the ground. If we can eventually reach a point where the residue transported to the landfill is less than 25 or 20 percent, that is actually the measure of better waste management for Jakarta,” Pramono stated.
