Pramono seeks funding scheme to rebuild Tendean pedestrian bridge
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has said the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing various funding schemes to rebuild the pedestrian crossing bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, which was damaged after being struck by a truck carrying heavy equipment.
Pramono said rebuilding the JPO is a priority because the location is in a busy traffic area with high pedestrian mobility.
“Therefore, I will look for room, whether through the revised Regional Budget (APBD Perubahan), CSR (corporate social responsibility) funds, building floor coefficient (KLB) funds, or by inviting a strategic partner to build it,” Pramono said at City Hall, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
He said although the Public Works Agency (Dinas Bina Marga) conveyed that the JPO’s construction could not be carried out immediately because no budget was yet available, the regional government would pursue various alternative financing options so the crossing facility could be rebuilt soon.
“But clearly, because that location is very busy and strategic, there must soon be a JPO to resolve the problems on the ground. So, that is the most important thing,” Pramono said.
He said the government is currently monitoring developments at the scene, considering the evacuation process was only completed in the morning and traffic flow had only just returned to normal.
According to Pramono, the truck carrying heavy equipment is suspected to have passed through with a load exceeding the height limit, becoming caught on the JPO’s structure.
“It was truly due to the driver’s negligence, carrying a load higher than the permitted limit, so it caught on the JPO,” Pramono said.
Regarding the legal process, he has left its handling to the relevant agency along with law enforcement officials to determine further steps, including the possibility of prosecution against the responsible party.
“Later, let the relevant agency together with law enforcement officials process that, whether prosecution is carried out or not,” Pramono said.
As is known, a truck carrying heavy equipment (a crane) became caught on the JPO on Jalan Kapten Tendean towards Blok M, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, in the early hours of Tuesday (14 July) at around 01.00 WIB.
The incident damaged the JPO, requiring it to be dismantled for the safety of road users, while traffic flow at the scene was disrupted before returning to normal after the evacuation process was completed.
