Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung is targeting the construction of Taman Bendera Pusaka (Heritage Flag Park) in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, to be inaugurated by March at the latest. One of the facilities at this new green open space, which merges three existing parks, is a free padel court for residents. Pramono said that as of now, construction progress on the 5.6-hectare Taman Bendera Pusaka has reached its final stage at 92 percent.

“What’s currently completed — progress as of today is 92 percent. And I expect, I’m requesting that by March at the latest this park can be inaugurated,” Pramono said at the Taman Bendera Pusaka project site on Friday (2/13).

According to him, the project is slightly behind schedule due to the construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL) at the same location. The IPAL construction is considered crucial to ensure the water in the area is clean, odor-free, and functions optimally for flood control.

“It has experienced a slight delay because a wastewater treatment plant will also be built here,” he said.

In addition to green areas, the park will feature a 1.2-kilometer jogging track and an underground tunnel connecting Taman Langsat and Taman Leuser beneath Jalan Kiai Maja.

“That’s what hasn’t been completed yet, along with the finalization and finishing touches on several sections,” Pramono said.

Pramono assured that the park will not only serve as the city’s lungs but will also provide various modern sports facilities accessible to residents free of charge, including padel courts that are typically expensive elsewhere.

To affirm his commitment to public space accessibility, Pramono guaranteed that all sports facilities in the park will not be commercialized.

“As I previously stated, anyone who wants to play padel here will do so for free,” Pramono said. “So it’s up to other venues if they charge for padel — at Taman Bendera Pusaka, padel is free,” he added.

Besides padel, the park will also feature badminton courts, basketball courts, and a children’s playground.

“Hopefully once this park is completed, it can serve people from anywhere,” Pramono said.

Pramono also emphasized the aesthetic aspect of nighttime lighting, given that the park will be open around the clock, 24 hours a day.

“I’ve also requested attention to the lighting, because this will be open 24 hours. The lighting, especially on the trees, should be made more beautiful, more attractive,” Pramono said.

Regarding visitor safety and comfort, the DKI Jakarta Parks and Urban Forest Agency has prepared free parking facilities within the park area and installed 127 CCTV cameras for comprehensive surveillance.

“127 CCTVs. So every area is monitored, leaving no blind spots,” said the Head of the DKI Jakarta Parks and Urban Forest Agency, Fajar Sauri.
