Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has stated that the revitalisation of Semanggi Park in Central Jakarta will not use the regional budget (APBD), but will instead employ creative financing.

The park's revitalisation is being carried out collaboratively with PT Media Indra Buana through a creative financing scheme based on naming rights.

"The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government wants this area to truly become an iconic space that can be properly utilised by everyone. Semanggi Park will become a symbol of regeneration from the ideas of Bung Karno that remain contextually relevant to Jakarta's needs today," said Pramono in the South Jakarta area on Friday.

Under the naming rights scheme, Pramono considers that this approach enables development to proceed without burdening the regional treasury whilst also ensuring the sustainability of the park's future management.

He noted that the Semanggi Park area has thus far tended to function passively and has been fragmented by traffic flows.

"Through revitalisation, this area will be arranged into an active, integrated, and inclusive public space by connecting ecological functions, pedestrian and cyclist mobility, and community social activities," Pramono explained.

Semanggi Park covers approximately six hectares spread across the four sides of the Semanggi Interchange.

The park will be equipped with various public facilities, including pedestrian paths, sports areas, activity plazas, communal spaces, water features, as well as infiltration and retention ponds to improve environmental quality and rainwater runoff management.

Pramono explained that the Semanggi Park revitalisation concept adopts three main approaches. First, regeneration — the ecological restoration of the area through landscape arrangement and vegetation planting.

Second, reconnection — strengthening the linkages between spaces so that the approximately 6.5-hectare park area can be accessed more easily, safely, and comfortably.

"Then there is reactivation, which means reviving the park area so it can be utilised by all community groups. Most importantly, all of this arrangement is carried out without disrupting existing traffic. The Semanggi area is a primary transport corridor as well as the face of Jakarta," Pramono elaborated.
