Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated that the number of public transport users in Jakarta, including Transjakarta, MRT, and LRT, increased by approximately 9.7 percent in the second quarter. “The number of people using TJ, MRT, LRT reached 230.8 million in the second quarter, an increase of about 9.7 percent,” Pramono said at City Hall on Wednesday. Furthermore, public transport connectivity in the capital has also improved significantly. Pramono noted that at the start of his administration with Deputy Governor Rano Karno, public transport connectivity was only around 22 percent. Currently, connectivity has reached 93 percent. He expressed hope that user numbers would increase further once the Pegangsaan Dua-Manggarai LRT route is inaugurated in August. “Hopefully this August, the LRT from end to end, built from Pegangsaan or Kelapa Gading to Manggarai, will be inaugurated. Hopefully it will be inaugurated this August and will add to the existing connectivity in Jakarta,” he said. Pramono previously expressed his hope that public transport users in the capital could increase by more than 30 percent. He believes that if fuel prices rise, the number of public transport users will increase. Additionally, he is open to adding new categories to the 15 groups currently eligible for free public transport. According to him, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to campaign for the utilisation of the 15 free categories to encourage people to use public transport. “We will likely add more categories and make them free. So that the cross-subsidy is fairer, those who cannot afford it ride for free. Those who can afford it pay a little more,” he said.
