Pramono Says Public Transport Usage in Jakarta Continues to Rise
The use of public transport in Jakarta continues to show a positive trend. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has recorded a recent increase in passenger numbers for TransJakarta, MRT Jakarta, and LRT Jakarta. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that TransJakarta usage has increased by almost 15%, MRT Jakarta has grown by nearly 23%, and LRT Jakarta by around 12%. “The use of public transport, especially firstly TransJakarta, has increased by almost 15%, MRT has increased by almost 23%, then LRT by slightly less, 12%,” Pramono said in South Jakarta on Tuesday (11/8). According to Pramono, this increase is inseparable from the DKI Provincial Government’s policy of maintaining the affordability of public transport fares. In addition, the provincial government provides free transport services for 15 eligible groups. “Why has there been a significant increase? Because firstly, we maintain the fares, and secondly, we provide free travel for 15 groups,” he said. The DKI Provincial Government is also encouraging state civil servants (ASN) to use public transport. Every Wednesday, all ASN within the DKI Provincial Government are required to use public transport for their activities. This policy is part of an effort to shift public habits from private vehicles to public transport. Pramono added that the increase is further supported by Jakarta’s transport connectivity, which has now reached more than 93%. “Currently, connectivity has reached more than 93%. It was only utilised by 23% previously, and thank God it is now above 31%,” he explained.
