Pramono says job training programmes reduce unemployment in Jakarta

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated that various programmes to improve job access and skills training are helping to lower the unemployment rate in the capital. “For instance, the labour-intensive programme we recently launched has created 2,843 new jobs across the Bina Marga, Water Resources, Environment, Parks, and Urban Forest agencies,” Pramono said at City Hall on Wednesday. Additionally, an internship programme for senior high school graduates has involved 1,000 participants and 107 companies. Regular training sessions have also been conducted with a total of 630 participants, while the Jakarta Government’s Mobile Training Unit has been attended by 2,731 people. “Increasing employment opportunities under these economic conditions shows that Jakarta’s economic growth is becoming healthier and more inclusive. This is reflected not only in macro indicators but also in the creation of job opportunities that improve the welfare of Jakarta’s residents,” Pramono explained. He detailed that in 2026, the labour force participation rate rose by 0.08 points year-on-year to 65.48 percent, with the number of employed residents increasing by 62,180 to 5.2 million people. The improvement in employment conditions is also evident from the open unemployment rate, which fell by 0.15 points to 6.03 percent in February 2026. Pramono added that cooperative programmes to send workers to countries such as Japan, Korea, Germany, and Saudi Arabia will be continued by the Jakarta administration. “This will provide opportunities and direct experience for workers from Jakarta to work abroad,” he stated.
