Pramono Says Jakarta's Top Human Development Index Proves Improving Quality of Life

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the increase in the capital’s Human Development Index (HDI) is proof that the quality of education, health, and life for its residents continues to improve. He said the achievement shows that the policies implemented by the Jakarta provincial government are on the right track.

He made the statement while opening the National Creativity Day for Teachers 2026 workshop at the Jakarta Education Agency office in South Jakarta on Thursday.

‘Jakarta has just received its Human Development Index. This index measures the quality of education, health, and quality of life in each province,’ Pramono said.

Pramono noted that Jakarta remains the province with the highest HDI in Indonesia. This year, the score rose to 85.05 from around 84 the previous year.

‘Last year Jakarta was already number one. I am pleased that in 2026, which was announced a few days ago, Jakarta is again number one and the figure has increased to 85.05,’ he said.

According to Pramono, the increase reflects the improving quality of education, health, and social services in Jakarta.

‘This shows that comfort, security, education, health, and matters related to social affairs are genuinely getting better in Jakarta,’ he said.

Nevertheless, Pramono stressed that the achievement is not merely a source of pride. For him, Jakarta’s position as the province with the highest HDI serves as a reminder that the government must continue to improve the quality of services for its citizens.

‘For me personally as Governor of Jakarta, this is not something to be proud of. Rather, it is a reminder to all of us that what we are doing is on the right track,’ he said.

Pramono also outlined the five provinces with the highest HDI in Indonesia. Jakarta is in first place, followed by the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Riau, East Kalimantan, and Bali.

He expressed hope that this achievement will serve as capital for all elements of society, including teachers, to continue improving the quality of Jakarta’s human resources.

‘Thus, this capital becomes the foundation for all of us, especially the teachers, to be proud and to feel a sense of ownership of Jakarta together,’ he concluded.
