Pramono Says Jakarta Weather Modification Hindered: There Are No Clouds

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has said that weather modification operations (OMC) to create rain in Jakarta are being hindered by the absence of rain clouds.

“Regarding the OMC or weather intervention, to be honest, until today there are simply no clouds,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (19/8).

He admitted that he has instructed the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) several times to carry out OMC, but it could not be done.

“I have repeatedly ordered BPBD to immediately carry out weather modification, but because there are no clouds, it cannot rain,” he said.

Pramono said the Jakarta provincial government is continuing to seek other measures to reduce the impact of the dry season.

One of these is spraying water using equipment owned by the Fire and Rescue Service (Damkar).

“Once again, this is certainly a given situation. And the DKI Jakarta government continues to try to modify the weather. But again, weather modification can be done under scientific conditions; as long as there are clouds, we will certainly do it immediately,” he said.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) previously stated that more than 70 percent of Indonesia’s territory has entered the dry season. One of these areas is DKI Jakarta.

BMKG predicts the dry season will last until October.
