Pramono Says DKI Will Reorganize Palmerah Market for Urban Planning
The Jakarta Provincial Government will reorganize the Palmerah Market area in West Jakarta as part of urban spatial planning efforts.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said at the Kerapatan Gereja Protestan Minahasa (KGPM) Church in Jakarta on Saturday (14/2) that he wants tangible actions rather than ceremonial ones and will enforce regulations.
He emphasized that the enforcement is for urban spatial planning, not just for a state official’s visit. He plans to ensure pedestrian areas function properly, prohibiting their use for selling activities.
“I have made an open statement that the new pedestrian walkways built by the Jakarta Provincial Government will not be allowed to be used for selling cilok or for anything other than their function as pedestrian walkways,” he said.
According to him, public facilities like sidewalks require significant costs to build and maintain, so they must be used optimally for pedestrians.
The reorganization of market areas and public spaces is part of efforts to create order and comfort in the capital, including in areas with high commercial activity.
The Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to consistently continuing urban spatial planning to improve the quality of the urban environment and public services.
Previously, Palmerah Market was temporarily closed ahead of the arrival of President Prabowo Subianto at the Indonesian National Police Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in Palmerah, West Jakarta, on Friday (13/2).
