Pramono Revives Nyi Ageng Serang Library, Dormant Since 2020

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has inaugurated the reopening of the Nyi Ageng Serang Jakarta Library in Kuningan, South Jakarta.

Previously located adjacent to the Soemantri Brodjonegoro Sports Hall or Pasar Festival (Pafes), the library had ceased operations in 2020 due to operational constraints and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pramono expressed his belief that the library, which occupies a 4,000-square-metre area and holds a collection of 55,000 books, will serve as a new reference point for Jakarta’s youth to enhance their literacy.

“I am confident this place will become a new reference for our children who wish to search, read, meet, and so on,” said Pramono after the inauguration on Tuesday (7/7).

He expressed hope that the library’s book collection will continue to expand to benefit both school and university students.

In addition to its book collection, the Nyi Ageng Serang Jakarta Library is equipped with modern facilities, including reading rooms, study and work areas, workshop rooms, private booths, discussion booths, multimedia booths, catalogue kiosks, lockers, as well as circulation services, information retrieval, and library guidance.

On the same occasion, the Head of the National Library, Endang Aminudin Aziz, appreciated the reopening of the Nyi Ageng Serang Jakarta Library as a new location for developing community literacy. He expressed confidence that the library would be well-utilised by the local community.

“I am certain that the people of Jakarta and its surroundings can make good use of the facilities provided by the Jakarta Provincial Government,” said Endang.

The Nyi Ageng Serang Jakarta Library is open daily from Monday to Sunday, between 09:00 and 22:00 WIB. Members of the public can access the library’s services and facilities by becoming registered members.
