Pramono Reveals Weather Modification Plan for 7-8 September, Hopes Clouds Will Cooperate
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has revealed plans for a weather modification operation (OMC) to help manage volcanic ash in Jakarta. The operation is targeted for 7-8 September 2026.
Pramono said the implementation of the OMC depends heavily on cloud conditions. He hopes the clouds on 7-8 September will be favourable so that the operation can proceed.
“In fact, there was actually a plan for the OMC today, but it really depends on the clouds,” said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Monday (7/9/2026).
Pramono noted that the central government is also planning similar measures. Based on forecasts, cloud conditions on 7-8 September have the potential to support the OMC’s implementation.
“The central government is even planning the same thing. It is predicted that on the 7th and 8th there is a good chance the clouds will be favourable,” he explained.
Pramono has asked the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to carry out the OMC should cloud conditions permit.
“So, if it can be done, I have already asked the Disaster Management Agency, which does have the authority for this, to carry out the OMC,” he said.
Beyond the OMC, the DKI Provincial Government is undertaking various efforts to manage the impact of volcanic ash, including operating water mist systems until tomorrow.
Buildings equipped with water mist facilities have also been asked to activate them. The DKI Provincial Government is likewise distributing masks at a number of public places to assist residents.
