Pramono Reveals Tourists Now Staying Longer in Jakarta: This New Trend

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung discussed the Thousand Islands up to tourism trends in Jakarta. He asked DKI Provincial Government officials to prepare so that the Thousand Islands can become Jakarta’s future.

Pramono conveyed this when opening the Development Planning Deliberation (Musrenbang) for the Regional Government Work Plan (RKPD) 2027 at Jakarta City Hall on Thursday (16/4/2026). Pramono initially stated that Jakarta’s future lies in the Thousand Islands.

“I always say that one of Jakarta’s futures that must be managed and cared for well is the Thousand Islands. That will be Jakarta’s future,” said Pramono.

Pramono assessed that the potential of the Thousand Islands has not been maximised compared to other areas in Jakarta. However, he said, the area has great opportunities to be developed from the tourism and sustainable economy perspectives.

“If the Thousand Islands can be rebranded and prepare itself well, I am confident that Jakarta’s future is there,” he stated.

Pramono encouraged the development of the Thousand Islands to be carried out in a planned and integrated manner. He said every area in Jakarta needs to have a thematic approach according to its respective strengths.

Pramono mentioned a latest trend in Jakarta. Currently, said Pramono, there is a new trend where people stay longer in Jakarta during holidays.

“Even now there is a new trend, people coming to Jakarta will stay longer in Jakarta. Previously, the average stay in Jakarta was only one point two five or one and a half days, now the average is already 2.8 up to three days,” he said.

He stated that residents are starting to feel that Jakarta is not just a business city. He mentioned that residents are starting to feel Jakarta as a tourist destination.

“Why is that happening? Because they feel that Jakarta is not merely a business city but also becoming a tourist city. Even the main tourism now is shopping tourism,” he said.
