Pramono Reveals Reasons for Choosing Lapangan Banteng as Venue for Betawi Lebaran

Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has revealed the reasons behind the decision to choose Lapangan Banteng as the location for this year’s Lebaran Betawi. He stated that the choice was made considering the condition of Lapangan Banteng, which has now been fully revitalised and is deemed more representative.

Pramono explained that Lebaran Betawi 2026 will be held on Saturday (11 April) starting at 10:00 WIB. This year marks the first time the annual tradition is centred at Lapangan Banteng.

“Why Lapangan Banteng? To be honest, I chose Lapangan Banteng because it has now been completed renovated,” said Pramono at Kebon Melati, Central Jakarta, on Friday (10 April 2026).

He added that Lapangan Banteng is now connected to the A.A. Maramis Building area, making the public space more comfortable and accessible for residents. Its more spacious location also allows the event to proceed in an orderly manner.

“We have also connected it to the A.A. Maramis Building; the location is better. Hopefully, tomorrow it will run smoothly and there will be sufficient parking,” he stated.

It is known that this year, Lebaran Betawi 2026 is being held from 10-12 April 2026 at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta. The Secretary of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, Uus Kuswanto, stated that Lebaran Betawi serves as a momentum to strengthen community ties in Jakarta after Eid al-Fitr while preserving Betawi culture.

Uus explained that Lebaran Betawi, which has been held since 2008, is now entering its 18th edition and continues to be developed as part of efforts to preserve Betawi culture and strengthen Jakarta’s identity as a global city rooted in local wisdom.

This year’s celebration carries the theme “Lebaran Betawi for Jakarta: Strengthening Unity in Nurturing Traditions Towards a Global Jakarta City”. The event is organised by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in collaboration with Bamus Betawi, Majelis Kaum Betawi, and various stakeholders as a form of cultural preservation collaboration.

Over the three days of the event, the public can participate in various activities ranging from thanksgiving nights, cultural attractions such as ondel-ondel, tanjidor, gambang kromong, lenong, to group exercises, cultural carnivals, and Betawi culinary bazaars. The selection of Lapangan Banteng as the event location also considers its historical value and the availability of adequate public space for large-scale cultural events.

Lebaran Betawi 2026 is expected to serve as a meeting space for the community to strengthen togetherness while keeping the Betawi cultural tradition alive amid Jakarta’s development as a global city.
