JAKARTA — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung disclosed that there are padel court operators in residential areas who are negotiating to stay open far later than the limit set by the government. The rules clearly cap operating hours at 20:00 WIB, including for courts with a Building Permit (PBG). ‘Meanwhile, for padel in residential areas, even if they already have a PBG, I have heard some still want to negotiate past 20:00 WIB. We will not allow it. The maximum is 20:00 WIB,’ Pramono said at City Hall in Jakarta on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. He reiterated that all padel courts in Jakarta must have a PBG. However, having this permit does not mean operators can ignore operating hours. If violations are found, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will take firm action, from warnings to demolition. ‘So for padel in Jakarta, everyone must be licensed, with a PBG. For all padel courts that commit violations and do not have a PBG, we will take decisive action,’ Pramono said. Previously, Pramono limited padel operations after many residents complained about noise, especially at night. He also asked operators to ensure padel activities do not disturb residents. ‘If padel courts cause noise because balls bounce or shouts disturb the community, then such padel courts in residential areas must be soundproof. The ball rebounds should not disturb residents,’ Pramono added. In addition, the DKI Jakarta Province will sanction padel courts without a PBG. The penalties include stopping activities, demolition of buildings, and revocation of business licences. In total, there are 397 padel courts in Jakarta. He suspects some courts do not have a PBG. Pramono also forbade new padel court construction in residential zones and said new courts must be built in commercial zones. ‘Most importantly for future construction, the project must obtain an initial technical permit from the Department of Youth and Sports (Dinas Pemuda dan Olahraga) so that this becomes a reference and not everyone who wants to build a padel court can do so in Jakarta,’ he said.
