Pramono Reveals High Public Enthusiasm for Rasuna Said Car Free Day: 95% Request Continuation
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung personally inspected the Car Free Day (CFD) at Jalan Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, accompanied by actress Cinta Laura, to engage with residents and campaign for a waste-sorting movement. The current CFD schedule, running from 05:30 to 09:00 WIB, was implemented following an evaluation of worship schedules at several churches in the affected area.
Pramono stated that feedback from residents indicates a strong desire for the Rasuna Said CFD to become a regular event. “I specifically wanted to listen to the input, suggestions, and opinions of the community members attending the Car Free Day. The vast majority, nearly 95 to 96 per cent, hope that this Car Free Day becomes continuous. The remaining 5 per cent expressed a desire for certain improvements,” Pramono said following his inspection in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Sunday (07/06/202MB).
The Governor explained that the small percentage of complaints pertained to road and pedestrian arrangements. Furthermore, the Jakarta Provincial Government plans to plant more trees around the CFD location. He noted that some areas, particularly on the eastern side, are still undergoing completion, with official inauguration scheduled for 22 June.
Additionally, Pramono addressed suggestions regarding environmental cleanliness and the regulation of street vendors. He specifically instructed the Mayor of South Jakarta, Syafrin Liputo, to manage these issues proactively to avoid the public controversies seen previously during the Sudirman-Thamrin CFD. “To be clear, we do not permit anyone to trade on the Car Free Day route. However, we must approach this more softly so as not to trigger public polemics,” he added.
Accompanied by Cinta Laura, who serves as the Waste Sorting Ambassador, Pramono expressed his hope that the waste-sorting movement would become a long-term habit. He emphasised that the initiative should not merely be a seasonal response to Gubernatorial Regulation (Ingub) Number 5 of 2026, but a genuine community movement involving all sectors, including hotels, restaurants, and cafes (horeka).
Cinta Laura expressed her support for the programme, noting that while many residents still lack awareness regarding waste sorting, they often complain about environmental pollution and overflowing landfills. “Instead of blaming others, we must change our habits, take responsibility, and realise that we are part of the problem and must change our behaviour,” Laura stated. She highlighted that sorting waste is essential for optimising waste processing facilities and urged the younger generation to take responsibility for their waste disposal habits.
