Pramono Reveals Economic Transactions During Ramadan in Jakarta Reach Rp 21 Trillion
Economic transactions during the Ramadan period in Jakarta have been recorded to have exceeded Rp 21 trillion. This figure is driven by increased activity across various sectors, from retail and shopping centres to hospitality.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that this achievement was reported as of 20 March 2026. He is optimistic that the transaction figures will continue to rise in the coming days.
“As of today, I received a report from the Assistant for Economy and Finance that transactions in Jakarta have reached Rp 21 trillion. Hopefully, with five days remaining, we aim to break the record, hopefully above Rp 23-24 trillion,” said Pramono at Bundaran HI, Central Jakarta, on Friday (20/3/2026).
Meanwhile, Suharini Eliawati, Assistant for Economy and Finance at the Jakarta Regional Secretariat, explained that this achievement stems from shopping promotion programmes held since early March. According to her, the retail and shopping centre sectors are the largest contributors, including the Tanah Abang area, which is bustling with visitors ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
In addition, the hospitality sector has also contributed to the increase in transactions. “So, Jakarta is holding a discount competition that started on 4 March and will end on 31 March. As of the cut-off today, transactions have exceeded Rp 21 trillion,” she said.
She added that the ‘Mudik to Jakarta’ programme has also contributed to the economic circulation. Several cities such as Semarang and Surabaya have been recorded as contributing to transactions in that programme.
