The Jakarta Provincial Government is opening a new area for car-free day (CFD) on Jalan Rasuna Said, Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Sunday, 10 May 2026. Typically, CFD is held on Jalan Sudirman to Jalan M.H. Thamrin in Central Jakarta.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the selection of this location considers the government’s desire to showcase a new icon for the capital.

“Why (CFD) is being held on Jalan Rasuna Said? We want to show the public that Jakarta is improving,” Pramono said in Jakarta on Sunday, as quoted from Antara.

According to Antara’s observations, thousands of residents appeared enthusiastic trying various activities during the CFD on Rasuna Said this morning. Some residents chose to walk, run, and cycle. The area is still under development after the Jakarta Provincial Government cut down and dismantled hundreds of stalled monorail pillars in January.

Pramono is confident that the Rasuna Said area can demonstrate the transition in Jakarta’s road arrangement, which was previously synonymous with scattered monorail pillars that disrupted the view. He said Rasuna Said has changed its face after those pillars were demolished.

After the arrangement of Jalan Rasuna Said is completed, the Jakarta Provincial Government will begin operating the new CFD area from 1 June 2026. Pramono believes the public is enthusiastic about trying CFD in other places.

“Later, it will be effectively implemented from 1 June. Why is this being held? Because of the extraordinary public demand, and earlier I was also surprised,” said this politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle.

In addition to the new location, Pramono decided that CFD will start operating 30 minutes earlier, from 05:30 to 10:00 WIB. This applies to CFD on Jalan Rasuna Said as well as Jalan Sudirman. In the future, he wants to expand the reach of sports tourism through the addition of this CFD location.

This former Cabinet Secretary during the 7th President Joko Widodo’s era said that many residents from outside Jakarta are willing to come to the capital to try CFD. Therefore, he is taking advantage of that opportunity by adding a new CFD location to attract even more people to Jakarta.

“I am confident that with the opening (of CFD) on Rasuna Said, there will be even more sports tourism in Jakarta. Including the organisation of various international events, whether football, marathons, or other activities,” Pramono said in East Jakarta on Friday, 8 May 2026, as quoted from Antara.
