Pramono Responds to Residents' Protests Over Traffic Congestion on Rasuna Said
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has responded to the viral protests from residents over the construction of a pedestrian walkway on Rasuna Said in South Jakarta, which has caused traffic congestion in the area. “For Rasuna Said, this is indeed in the completion phase for the pedestrian. We realise there is a problem. Because it’s impossible to build without any effects,” Pramono said at the DKI Jakarta DPRD Building on Monday. He admitted that every construction project will have impacts, one of which is the traffic congestion complained about by the public. However, the construction must proceed to make the area better than before. “We want to make Rasuna Said better. The effect is, as mentioned earlier, it must be managed,” Pramono explained. It is known that after the dismantling of monorail poles in the area, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will redesign the pedestrian and expand the traffic lanes there. The South Jakarta City Government stated that the redesign of the eastern side of Jalan HR Rasuna Said will adopt the concept of a street as an inclusive shared space or “complete street”. Mukhlisin said that Jalan HR Rasuna Said is one of the main and strategic corridors in South Jakarta. The redesign plan for the eastern side of Jalan HR Rasuna Said will be carried out by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Public Works Department. “We invite all elements of society, especially building owners and stakeholders, to provide support and actively participate, including maintaining order during the work process,” he said. According to him, the construction implementation has the potential to create dynamics on the ground, including temporary traffic disruptions. Therefore, good coordination, communication, and socialisation are needed so that the work can run smoothly and provide long-term benefits to the community. “I hope this redesign can make the face of the eastern side of Jalan HR Rasuna Said more representative, well-organised, and reflect the character of a modern and competitive strategic urban area,” he said.
