Pramono Responds to Residents' Complaints About Rubbish in RSCM Area
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Governor of DKI Pramono Anung Wibowo has responded to residents’ complaints about the Ciliwung River area, specifically behind Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), which was previously squalid but has now been cleaned by officials following its viral exposure.
According to Pramono, viral reports from the public greatly assist the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in accelerating the handling of problems in the capital, including rubbish piles and squalor along the Ciliwung River.
“Indeed, I must admit, the more it goes viral, the better, so we can address it immediately because not all areas can be reached,” he said at the DKI Jakarta DPRD Building on Monday.
He explained that the condition of the Ciliwung River is indeed inaccessible, leading to the accumulation of sludge and undergrowth.
“It’s similar to what happened recently during the dredging at the confluence of the Ciliwung and Krukut. That also became a water source that couldn’t flow quickly to the sea,” he clarified.
However, the river area is now being handled and cleaned by officials from the Central Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Department.
For a long-term solution, Pramono mentioned that they have carried out a dredging project for sediment deposits in the river area, amounting to approximately 178,000 cubic metres.
In addition to focusing on sludge dredging, they are also continuing the normalisation programme for the Ciliwung River to minimise flood potential. Progress on land acquisition at several key points has also begun to be completed.
“And yesterday, the focus for the Ciliwung was actually the normalisation of the Ciliwung River in the Cawang segment. And alhamdulillah, the land acquisition is relatively complete,” said Pramono.
Previously, the flow of the Ciliwung River in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, was complained about because it was filled with rubbish and sludge.
In a post on the Instagram account @wargajakarta.id, it was visible that nearly half of the river area was covered by sludge deposits, even growing green undergrowth.
Not only that, rubbish in the form of plastic, leaves, and household furniture items was seen in the water body area. Even a large-sized mattress was caught in the middle of the river flow.
“The condition was observed stretching about 1.3 kilometres from Jalan Pangeran Diponegoro to Jalan Talang, Pegangsaan, Menteng, Central Jakarta,” stated the account’s caption.
