Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has called for the swift resolution of the incident involving the collapsed Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean. The bridge collapsed due to the negligence of a truck driver transporting heavy equipment, whose load exceeded the permitted height limit and struck the structure, causing damage.

Pramono stated that the legal handling of the incident is fully entrusted to the relevant agencies in coordination with law enforcement officials. He said the government would respect the ongoing process, including whether charges would be brought against the responsible parties.

“What happened yesterday was indeed due to the negligence of the driver who was carrying a load exceeding the permitted height, causing it to snag the JPO. Whether or not prosecution will follow is the authority of the relevant agencies together with law enforcement,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (15/7).

Pramono also said the Jakarta Provincial Government’s priority is not only to oversee the legal process but also to accelerate the reconstruction of the Kapten Tendean Pedestrian Bridge. According to him, the crossing facility plays a strategic role as it is located in an area with very high public mobility.

“The most important thing for us is that this JPO is rebuilt immediately so that the public can cross safely again and activities in the Tendean area can return to normal,” he concluded.
