Pramono Responds to JPO in Front of DPR Lacking Stair Access

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has spoken out about the pedestrian bridge (JPO) in front of the DPR building in Senayan that has no stair access.

Pramono said the bridge is a facility that was previously built by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR).

“The JPO in Senayan is a bridge that was originally built by the Ministry of PUPR,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.

He stressed that his administration will continue to maintain bridges that are still needed by the public because they are the responsibility of the regional government.

“For the Jakarta administration, all JPOs that are still usable and needed will of course be maintained by us,” he explained.

However, he said not all pedestrian bridges in the capital will be retained. The Jakarta government plans to remove or dismantle bridges deemed no longer functional or no longer needed.

He cited as an example the JPO on Jalan HR Rasuna Said, which had previously drawn public attention. The decision to remove that bridge was taken after seeing the conditions on the ground firsthand.

“Including the JPO that was previously the subject of love and hate on Rasuna Said. If I had not seen it directly, I certainly would not have been able to make a decision. Once I saw it directly, it turned out the bridge was no longer needed,” he said.

The Jakarta provincial government’s policy on pedestrian bridges will be adjusted to the needs of the public. Bridges that are still needed will be maintained, while facilities deemed no longer needed will be removed.

“Thus, for the Jakarta administration, as long as a JPO is still needed and is the responsibility of the Jakarta government, we will maintain it,” Pramono said.
