Pramono Responds to Intimidation of Journalists at Illegal Cilincing Dump Site

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has assured that media personnel reporting at the illegal waste processing site will receive official accompaniment. This was conveyed after reports emerged of intimidation against several journalists covering the issue of the illegal waste processing site in Cilincing, North Jakarta.

“If they do want to go there, they need to be accompanied by Satpol PP or law enforcement officers; we will provide accompaniment,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (12/8).

According to Pramono, media coverage is necessary to ensure that the waste management improvement process proceeds openly. He said he has been following reports on conditions in the field through television broadcasts.

“I happened to watch it,” he said.

Pramono stressed that the Jakarta Provincial Government will not allow the waste management improvement process to be disrupted by intimidation against those carrying out journalistic functions. He also said that the handling of illegal waste will be carried out firmly through government apparatus and law enforcement officers.

Pramono confirmed that the policy is part of efforts to build a more transparent and orderly waste management system.
