Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has confirmed that the perpetrators of the extortion against a porridge vendor in the Tanah Abang area, Central Jakarta, have been quickly addressed by the authorities.

Pramono stated that he immediately coordinated with relevant parties upon receiving the report of the incident. Pramono contacted the Head of Satpol PP DKI Jakarta, Satriadi Gunawan, to ensure appropriate handling on the ground.

“I immediately called the Head of the Satpol PP Agency to take action at that time,” said Pramono after opening Lebaran Betawi 2026 on Saturday (11/4).

Pramono mentioned that the extortion perpetrators have been secured and are currently undergoing legal proceedings. His side, Pramono stated, will not tolerate acts of thuggery or extortion that harm residents.

“Those who extort and damage are immediately arrested and detained,” Pramono said.

Pramono also responded to public scrutiny regarding Jakarta’s security conditions, which are often cited as one of the safest cities in ASEAN. He explained that this assessment is based on global surveys, not just unilateral statements from the local government.

Nevertheless, he acknowledged that dynamics in a major city like Jakarta still exist. Especially with a large population, the potential for security disturbances in Jakarta remains possible.

He stated that the speed of response is key to maintaining residents’ sense of security. The DKI Provincial Government, he said, will continue to coordinate with law enforcement agencies to ensure that every disturbance to public order is handled promptly.

“Jakarta, with a population of more than 11 million, naturally cannot be entirely problem-free. But things like that are immediately addressed firmly by us. The important thing is quick response and firm enforcement,” Pramono said.

Previously, police arrested three thugs who went viral for extorting a porridge vendor and smashing bowls in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. The three are now secured at the Tanah Abang Police Sector.

The incident occurred on Thursday (9/4). In the circulating video, the perpetrators were seen carrying out extortion against the trader and damaging merchandise, including smashing the porridge seller’s bowls.
