Pramono resigns from House

JAKARTA: More than one month after his election as the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle's (PDI-P) secretary- general, Pramono Anung Wibowo tendered on Thursday his resignation as a House of Representatives member.

"I don't have time for it and cannot do my best to serve the people I represent because of my party responsibilities, which are time consuming," Pramono said after submitting his resignation to House Speaker Agung Laksono.

Pramono was elected to a second five-year term at the House in the legislative election last year.

Soon after his election as the party's second-in-command during a congress in Bali late in April, Pramono expressed his intention to quit the House, citing party commitments. The party is plagued by a protracted internal conflict, sparked by its failure to address demands from a reform group. -- JP
