Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has requested the modernisation of 157 markets in Jakarta, particularly regarding payments, which must transition to digital methods such as QRIS.

“I truly hope that the markets in Jakarta, numbering 157, can be revitalised and modernised as much as possible. This includes their payment systems,” said Pramono during his speech at the groundbreaking of Pasar Gardu Asem and Pasar Kramat Jaya in Central Jakarta on Monday (6/4/2026).

The reason is that pickpockets usually target cash.

“For example, with digitalisation, whether using QRIS or other methods, it will significantly reduce pickpocketing. Because so far, you can’t pickpocket a card, what gets pickpocketed is definitely cash,” Pramono continued.

Meanwhile, Pasar Jaya Director Agus Himawan explained that the construction of Pasar Kramat Jaya and Pasar Gardu Asem is funded by Regional Capital Participation (PMD).

Pasar Kramat Jaya is being built with Rp10.2 billion from the 2016 PMD.

The construction of Pasar Kramat Jaya is targeted to be completed in January 2027, or around eight months.

Meanwhile, Pasar Gardu Asem is estimated to be completed in March 2027, or around 11 months.

The DKI Provincial Government hopes that with physical improvements and a digital payment system, markets in Jakarta will become safer and more comfortable for traders and buyers.

“The implementation of the construction of both markets, God willing, will be completed by the end of January 2027 for Pasar Kramat Jaya, or approximately eight months, and by the end of March 2027 for Pasar Gardu Asem, approximately 11 months,” said Agus.
