Jakarta — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo officially reopened the Sarinah Pedestrian Overpass (JPO Sarinah) following revitalisation with several new facilities.

“The opening was postponed by two days. At that time, I said it would be inaugurated at the end of February, but now on 2 March we are reopening the revitalised Pedestrian Overpass or JPO Sarinah,” said Pramono after officially reopening the JPO Sarinah in Central Jakarta on Monday.

According to Pramono, the pedestrian bridge is Jakarta’s first pedestrian overpass. The bridge was originally inaugurated by Ali Sadikin on 21 April 1968. Therefore, the Sarinah JPO is one of Jakarta’s historic sites.

The bridge has now been revitalised to be more disability-friendly. One improvement includes the installation of a lift.

Pramono stated that the pedestrian area beneath the JPO Sarinah will be widened by 2.6 metres, making the pedestrian pathway wider and more comfortable for the public.

Transjakarta General Director Welfizon Yuza noted that the Sarinah JPO revitalisation was carried out using corporate funding from Transjakarta. However, Welfizon stated that the pedestrian construction beneath the JPO Sarinah is still in phase one.

“So in May there will be a pavement widening of approximately 2.6 metres, so later pedestrian access will have more spacious room,” said Welfizon.

Welfizon did not provide details of the budget for the Sarinah JPO revitalisation.
