Pramono Remembers Rachmat Gobel: A Unifying Figure in Politics
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has remembered Rachmat Gobel, a member of the House of Representatives from the NasDem faction, who passed away in the early hours of this morning. Pramono said Rachmat Gobel was an exceptionally good man who was able to bridge various groups in the political world.
“This morning, before starting the event, I deliberately went to pay my respects to Pak Rachmat Gobel. I had a very personal relationship with him. I was perhaps among those who met him every two weeks, and he also came to City Hall several times,” said Pramono in the Kramat Jati area of East Jakarta on Friday (10/7/2026).
Pramono said Rachmat Gobel was a friendly figure with a deep concern for others. According to him, his passing is a great loss, not only for him personally but also for many circles.
“He was very warm, caring towards others, an extremely good person. And of course we are all losing someone who has served as a unifying figure for many groups in the political world,” he said.
Pramono also touched on Rachmat Gobel’s significant role in strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and Japan. He recalled the close cooperation forged when he was still serving as Cabinet Secretary.
“Pak Rachmat Gobel had a special quality, particularly in his relationship with Japan. When I was Cabinet Secretary, he was among those who built good relations with the Japanese community, and this brought mutual benefits and advantages,” he said.
Pramono also offered his heartfelt prayers for the late Rachmat Gobel, hoping he finds the best place at God’s side. “So, personally I feel the loss, and I pray that he is granted the best place,” he added.
As previously reported, Rachmat Gobel passed away in the early hours of this morning. The sad news was confirmed by the Deputy Chairman of the NasDem Party’s Central Executive Board, Willy Aditya. Rachmat Gobel breathed his last in Jakarta.
“Our deepest condolences. Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. H. Rachmat Gobel has returned to the mercy of God on Friday, 10 July 2026, at 03.20 WIB, in Jakarta,” said Willy.
