Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has rejected requests from padel court operators in residential areas to extend operating hours beyond 20.00 WIB. He stated clearly that the rule is explicit: all padel courts in residential areas may operate only until 20:00 WIB, even for those with a Building Permit (PBG). ‘For padel in residential areas, even if it already has a PBG, I have heard there are still those who want to negotiate beyond 20:00 WIB. We will not allow it. Maximum is 20:00 WIB,’ Pramono said at City Hall, Jakarta, on Wednesday 4 March 2026. He also stressed that all padel courts in Jakarta must hold a PBG. However, possession of a permit does not mean operators can ignore operating hours. ‘So for padel in Jakarta, everyone must be licensed and have a PBG. For all padel that violate this, those without a PBG, we will take firm action,’ he added. Penalties range from warnings and stopping activities to demolition and revocation of business licenses. The restriction follows numerous complaints from residents about noise, particularly at night, including ball rebound sounds and players’ shouts that disrupt surrounding areas. In addition to limiting operating hours, the provincial government bans new padel courts in residential zones, allowing new courts only in commercial zones. Pramono said future padel projects must obtain an initial technical approval from the Youth and Sports Department to prevent haphazard construction. ‘Most importantly for any new padel courts, they must obtain initial technical approval from the Youth and Sports Department. This should serve as a reference so that not everyone who wants to build a padel court can build one in Jakarta,’ he said.
