Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has highlighted the persistent issue of excessive ego among officials in regional-owned enterprises (BUMDs). He considers this to be one of the main causes of stalled communication.

Pramono expressed this during the BUMD Leaders Forum 2026 in Ancol, North Jakarta, on Friday (17/4/2026). He emphasised that ego often obstructs collaboration that could bring significant benefits to Jakarta.

“Our primary problem is that ego among officials, including BUMD officials, is too great. Communication does not run smoothly,” Pramono stated.

He cited the suboptimal synergy between the Ancol area and the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), both under the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

According to him, for years, these two assets have not been maximally connected due to weak communication. Yet, if synergised, the benefits could extend to companies and the public.

“Meanwhile, Ancol is majority-owned by the Provincial Government, and next to it is JIS, also owned by the Province. They have not been synergised for a long time,” he said.

Now, the Provincial Government is beginning to integrate the two areas, including by building a connecting bridge approximately 350 metres long. Pramono said this step addresses various classic problems, such as traffic jams during events at JIS.

He even admitted to experiencing severe congestion firsthand when attending an event at the stadium. “At that time, I came with the President (Joko Widodo) to watch a concert. The President’s vehicle was stuck for more than two hours,” he revealed.

Looking ahead, Pramono urged all BUMD ranks to reduce sectoral ego and prioritise open communication. He stressed the importance of building a collaborative work culture so that various problems can be resolved more quickly.

“If communication runs well, openly, and transparently, problems can be easily consulted and decided,” he stated.
