Pramono-Rano Unveil 7 Infrastructure Projects Ahead of Jakarta's 5th Centenary

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Deputy Governor Rano Karno have outlined a series of infrastructure projects currently being undertaken and planned by the Jakarta Provincial Government. The developments are part of an effort to improve the comfort of residents whilst also preparing for Jakarta’s 500th anniversary. Pramono stated that the various developments aim to create a Jakarta that is more comfortable, convenient, and happier for the public. “Most importantly, I hope the residents of Jakarta live comfortably, easily, happily, and conveniently,” Pramono said during the peak night celebration of Jakarta’s 499th Anniversary at the HI Roundabout, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (27/6). The infrastructure projects presented by the provincial government include: the construction of waste-to-energy power plants in Bantargebang, Tanjungan, and Sunter to strengthen waste management; river normalisation and canal dredging to reduce flood risk; the construction of an underground link connecting buildings in the HI Roundabout area, integrated with the MRT station and complete with spaces for MSMEs; the construction of a pedestrian deck in the Dukuh Atas area to connect various public transport modes; the dismantling of abandoned monorail pillars on Jalan Rasuna Said; the construction of a connecting bridge between Jakarta International Stadium and the Ancol area; and continuing the unfinished construction of Sumber Waras Hospital. In addition to infrastructure development, the Jakarta Provincial Government is also continuing to improve public transport services, including providing free transport fares for 15 groups of citizens. Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Rano Karno stated that Jakarta continues to prepare itself to become a global city while prioritising public welfare. He noted that the various activities held in the HI Roundabout area are also expected to increase tourist visits and boost hotel occupancy in Jakarta.
