Pramono Proposes Lebaran Betawi 2026 Be Held at Lapangan Banteng
Jakarta — DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has requested that Lebaran Betawi 2026 be held at Lapangan Banteng. Pramono wants the Betawi community, as the hosts, to be the first to use Lapangan Banteng once its renovation is completed.
"Including the upcoming Lebaran Betawi, which is usually held at Monas — this time I am proposing, why not at Lapangan Banteng? Lapangan Banteng is currently being renovated and will hopefully be completed soon. It will be connected to A.A. Maramis, making the venue spacious and attractive. I truly want the first to use it once it is finished to be the Betawi community as the hosts," said Pramono Anung at the Betawi Community Grand Gathering at the MH Thamrin Museum in Central Jakarta on Sunday (15/2/2026).
Pramono said his administration would remain committed to preserving and developing Betawi culture, starting with the preservation of Betawi cultural heritage sites.
"First is the preservation of cultural heritage sites like this one. There are a great many Betawi cultural heritage sites, but in my view they have not been well managed. The DKI Jakarta Government will facilitate this through the Culture Agency, and I have also asked the Regional Secretary to officially document Betawi cultural traditions in books, so that future generations will have a reference," he said.
Pramono said further efforts would include fostering arts studios and incorporating Betawi elements into nearly all DKI Jakarta provincial government activities.
"Next is the fostering of existing arts studios, which are now beginning to grow and thrive. In almost all activities of both the central government and DKI Jakarta Government, the Betawi character is quite palpable in Jakarta at present," he said.
Pramono also wants to reintroduce Betawi local content into the education curriculum in Jakarta, so that everyone can become familiar with Betawi culture.
"Then what I want to do is local content education. It is actually unfair if we in Jakarta have no Betawi local content education. I will ask the Education Agency to prepare this, working together with the Betawi community, so that people can learn about what exists in Betawi culture, here in Jakarta," he said.
Pramono said Betawi local content learning was a positive initiative, adding that educating children about local culture was important.
"Learning about local cultures, including of course Betawi, is important in the education of our students. So we will implement local content education, and I am confident this will be a very positive thing," he said.
He also praised the flavours of Betawi cuisine, saying the development of Betawi culture would also be pursued through the empowerment of the creative economy and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
"Next is the empowerment of the locally-oriented creative economy and locally-oriented MSMEs. Betawi food is already very diverse, but one of its weaknesses is that it has not been well documented," said Pramono.
"We are now in the era of gastronomy, so hopefully this will be properly documented, and as a global, inclusive city, Betawi culture will also become known to the world. That is what we wish to convey," he said.
Additionally, Pramono proposed that the haul (annual commemoration) of Betawi scholars and fighters be held at Monas, with the DKI Jakarta provincial government serving as the organising committee.
"I even said that the Madurese community, which holds prayer gatherings at Monas, I have permitted. Even Jakmania. How can the hosts, who own the place, not hold such events? I cannot fathom it. So I truly hope that we prepare for this, with Bamusda as the committee and the DKI Jakarta Government supporting it," he said.
