Pramono Promises to Make Jakarta's Ramadan and Eid Celebrations Far More Festive
Jakarta - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said he wants to make Jakarta more festive in welcoming the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. Pramono plans to have Ramadan and Eid-themed ornaments adorning Jakarta.
Pramono made the remarks during his speech at the Grand Betawi Community Gathering at the MH Thamrin Museum in Central Jakarta on Sunday (2/15/2026).
Pramono began by highlighting Jakarta’s relatively stronger economic growth.
“Compared to other regions, Jakarta’s economic growth is relatively better. We grew 5.21%, while the national figure was 5.11%. In Q4 last year, we even grew 5.71% — the highest — and that would not have been possible without our collective hard work,” Pramono said in his speech.
Pramono said his administration has given wide latitude for events to be held in Jakarta as a stimulus for the economy. He then noted that Betawi cultural elements have been incorporated into various events organized by the DKI Provincial Government, including the Christmas Colossal, New Year’s celebrations, and the Lunar New Year Festival opening.
“So to stimulate and keep the economic wheels turning, I am now giving wide space for all activities. For example, as Bang Foke also mentioned, during Christmas and New Year, there had never been a Christmas Colossal of that scale held on Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin,” Pramono said.
“But without you realizing it — please check — I requested that Betawi elements be included in all events. Even when I opened the Lunar New Year celebration, without people realizing it, they performed a Betawi dance first. Check it on YouTube — Betawi dance first. Why? Because there will never be Betawi-Chinese acculturation if the Betawi community is not involved at the forefront,” he added.
Pramono then said he would make Jakarta more festive in welcoming Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr starting February 18. He said Ramadan and Eid-themed ornaments would be no less impressive than those for Christmas or Lunar New Year.
“That is what I am doing. So later, on February 18, Jakarta will transform to welcome Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, no less grand than Christmas or Lunar New Year. I will make Jakarta far more festive for it,” he said.
