Pramono prioritises education through teacher empowerment

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has prioritised improving the quality of education through the empowerment of functional teacher positions that uphold competence, dedication, and integrity in carrying out their duties. “Education, health, and social safety nets are priorities in the government I lead. Therefore, I ask educators to improve the quality of education services,” Pramono said at the inauguration of Functional Officials of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government at City Hall on Wednesday. He noted that of the 239 functional officials inaugurated, 150 were teachers from various educational levels. According to Pramono, the large number of teachers inaugurated demonstrates the importance of the education sector in supporting human resource development in Jakarta. He urged the teachers now holding functional positions to carry out their mandate with full responsibility and make a real contribution to improving the quality of education in Jakarta. “I sincerely hope that education in Jakarta will continue to advance,” Pramono stated. Therefore, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government continues to maintain various educational assistance programmes so that more children from underprivileged families can pursue education to higher levels. Pramono mentioned that currently, the number of recipients of the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) Plus has reached more than 707,520 students, while the number of recipients of the Jakarta Superior Student Card (KJMU) is around 15,900 students. These programmes, he said, are being continued as part of efforts to expand access to education. Pramono also views education as the key to breaking the intergenerational cycle of disadvantage, hence the government continues to pay attention to this sector, including through strengthening the quality of educational personnel. “I believe that the more children from less fortunate families can attend school to the highest levels, the more they will have hope and the opportunity to become people who can improve their family’s lives,” Pramono expressed.
