Pramono prioritises education through teacher empowerment
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has prioritised improving the quality of education through strengthening teachers in functional positions, upholding competence, dedication and integrity in carrying out their duties.
“Education, health and social welfare are the priorities of the administration I lead. Therefore, I am asking educators to improve the quality of education services,” Pramono said at the inauguration of Functional Officials of the Jakarta Provincial Government at City Hall, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
He said that of the 239 functional officials inaugurated, 150 of them were teachers from various levels of education.
According to Pramono, the large number of teachers appointed demonstrates the importance of the education sector in supporting human resource development in Jakarta.
He also asked the teachers who now hold functional positions to carry out their mandate with full responsibility and to make a real contribution to improving the quality of education in Jakarta.
“I sincerely hope that education in Jakarta will continue to progress,” Pramono said.
To that end, the Jakarta Provincial Government continues to maintain various education assistance programmes so that more children from disadvantaged families can pursue education to higher levels.
Pramono said that the number of recipients of the Jakarta Pintar Plus Card (KJP Plus) has now reached more than 707,520 students, while the number of recipients of the Jakarta Outstanding Student Card (KJMU) stands at around 15,900 university students.
He said these programmes are being continued as part of efforts to broaden access to education.
Pramono also views education as the key to breaking the chain of misfortune across generations, which is why the government continues to pay attention to the sector, including through strengthening the quality of education officials.
“I believe that the more children from less fortunate families can study to the highest level possible, the more they will have hope and the opportunity to become people who can improve their family’s lives,” Pramono said.
