The Jakarta Provincial Government is currently preparing PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) to serve maritime transport to the Thousand Islands. In the long term, the Jakarta-owned enterprise is even being prepared to provide air transport services.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that these preparations have been included in the Draft Regional Regulation (Ranperda) regarding the Change of Legal Entity Form of PT Transportasi Jakarta to a Limited Liability Company (Perseroda). The draft regulation has been proposed to the Jakarta Provincial Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) for discussion.

“Regarding why Transjakarta involves air transport? Because, in the long term, sooner or later, Jakarta, as a megapolitan city, will certainly have air transport regulations,” he said in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, on Friday (2/10/2026).

However, Pramono could not yet specify exactly which air transport services Transjakarta will provide. At present, the administration is merely conducting regulatory preparations to ensure Transjakarta can continue to develop its services.

According to him, air transport services are becoming a trend in several major cities worldwide, including New York, USA. “Therefore, we are preparing this at the beginning. We must not wait until it becomes a necessity and then only deal with the permits, especially the regional regulations related to it,” Pramlar said.

It is noted that during a plenary session at the Jakarta DPRD on Thursday (1/10/2026), Pramono expressed his intention to expand Transjakarta’s business scope to support more integrated transport services, covering water and air transport. The state-owned enterprise is also being prepared to engage in the provision and management of transport facilities and infrastructure, as well as the construction, operation, and maintenance of transport service support systems.

“PT Transportasi Jakarta is also being given space to develop supporting businesses, such as education, training, certification, consultancy services, technical assistance, as well as information technology and digital-based services,” he added.

He hopes that Transjakarta can evolve into a company that provides various transport support services, creates new business opportunities, and strengthens both service quality for the public and the company’s independence. In line with this, Transjakarta’s business area will be expanded to national and international scales to allow for the replication of the transport systems and experiences established in Jakarta.

“Consequently, the authorised capital of PT Transportasi Jakarta (Perseroda) is being increased from the previous Rp 5.225 trillion to Rp 13.4 trillion, with a paid-up capital of Rp 3.351 trillion,” Pramono concluded.
