JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung plans to assign special individual other service provider personnel (PJLP) to handle the widespread presence of plecostomus fish in the capital’s waters. This step is being taken in response to the dominance of plecostomus fish, which are considered to have disrupted the river ecosystems and water channels in Jakarta. Pramono stated that handling plecostomus fish cannot be done merely ceremonially. He wants the efforts to run sustainably by involving special personnel in the field. In addition to preying on the eggs of other fish, this fish is also considered capable of damaging embankments or river walls because it often creates holes as nests. Pramono also revealed the presence of harmful residues in the bodies of plecostomus fish. “If consumed, it would certainly be dangerous. Moreover, this fish also damages the environment by making nests by gnawing on river walls,” he explained. Previously, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has held a simultaneous plecostomus fish capture movement in five administrative city areas, namely North Jakarta, South Jakarta, East Jakarta, West Jakarta, and Central Jakarta.
