Pramono Prepares People's Schools for a Thousand Additional Students

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated that his administration will prepare locations for People’s Schools to accommodate an additional thousand students. President Prabowo specifically requested the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to increase the capacity of the pioneering school programme in the capital. “We will study and prepare locations that can be used for boarding schools for a thousand students,” Pramono said during a visit to the People’s School Senior High School 10 in South Jakarta on Friday, 3 July 2026. During his visit, Pramono said he witnessed the remarkable achievements of children from disadvantaged backgrounds. “Their spirit aligns with the fundamental aspirations of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government,” he stated, adding that the President’s hope is to increase capacity to a thousand students. He also noted that this programme shares the same objectives as existing provincial schemes such as the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP), the Jakarta Excellent Student Card (KJMU), and diploma legalisation. “Even before I left the room, there were mothers asking for their children’s diplomas to be redeemed. We will follow up on that immediately,” Pramono continued on Friday. The politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle hopes the programme will become a gateway for underprivileged children to look towards a better future. “This programme is very relevant and very appropriate to be followed up.” Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf mentioned that DKI Jakarta currently only has one permanent building for organising the People’s School, which utilises land belonging to the Ministry of Social Affairs. “For that reason, the President wants an acceleration so that we do not fall behind,” he said during the joint visit to the South Jakarta school with Pramono. He acknowledged the current obstacle of land shortages but revealed that ten locations for pioneering schools have been secured. “Of those ten points, eight are in the renovation process, including a building owned by the National Institute of Public Administration (LAN) in Pejompongan, Marunda, and Curug,” he said. These buildings have been declared fit for purpose by the Ministry of Public Works. Saifullah projected the addition of permanent People’s School buildings in the DKI Jakarta area, stating, “For DKI specifically, one permanent building is not enough. If necessary, there should be five so that they can accommodate more than 10,000 students for the People’s School.”
