Pramono Prepares Cloud Seeding to Tackle Jakarta's Air Pollution

The DKI Jakarta provincial government is preparing weather modification in the form of cloud seeding to help reduce air pollution in the capital. The move comes as Jakarta has not experienced rain for a considerable period.

Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung stated that cloud seeding would be carried out once cloud conditions are favourable. The weather engineering is expected to help cleanse the air and reduce the concentration of pollutants in Jakarta and its surrounding areas.

"Thus, I am confident this will reduce the pollution," Pramono said in South Jakarta on Tuesday (11/8).

He acknowledged that one of the problems currently felt by the public is the air quality, which is affected by the lack of rainfall. He cited the recent football match between Chelsea and AC Milan, where the lack of rain was a source of complaint.

"Yesterday, during the Chelsea vs AC Milan match, one of the complaints was because it had not rained for too long," he said.

Consequently, the DKI Jakarta provincial government is preparing weather modification measures. Pramono noted that the implementation of cloud seeding is highly dependent on the availability of suitable clouds.

"We are preparing cloud seeding, hopefully, the clouds are there. As soon as the clouds are available, we will immediately carry out cloud seeding for Jakarta and its surrounding areas," Pramono stressed.

According to him, cloud seeding is one of the efforts the government can undertake to help improve air quality when natural weather conditions are unfavourable for rain.
