Pramono pledges to make Jakarta a child-friendly city
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has pledged to make the capital a child-friendly city by continuously strengthening protection and improving children’s welfare. “The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to ensure that Jakarta truly becomes a child-friendly province. Since 2022, Jakarta has consistently held the title of Child-Friendly Province,” Pramono said during the 42nd National Children’s Day commemoration at the city hall courtyard on Monday. He also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, the Indonesian Child Protection Agency (LPAI), and all parties who collaborated to organise the event. This year’s commemoration invited participants to watch children having fun while learning values of honesty, sportsmanship, mutual cooperation, creativity, and resilience through traditional games and a ‘Play Happily’ competition. These values align with the 2026 National Children’s Day theme, ‘Protect and Realise a Resilient Generation’, which emphasises that the nation’s future, including Jakarta’s journey towards becoming a global city, depends on safeguarding and fulfilling children’s rights. Pramono further stated that the Jakarta provincial government continues to strengthen child-friendly policies. “For children living in Jakarta, as a child-friendly city, I hope you take advantage of the opportunity to study diligently. If you wish to pursue higher education, the provincial government provides ample opportunities through various educational assistance programmes,” he said. Meanwhile, Seto Mulyadi, Chairman of the Indonesian Child Protection Agency (LPAI), praised the Jakarta government’s consistent commitment to implementing policies that prioritise the best interests of children. “We give our highest appreciation to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government because its various policies truly favour the best interests of children and create an atmosphere that optimally supports the fulfilment of children’s rights,” Seto stated. On the occasion, LPAI also presented the ‘Governor Friend of Children’ award to Pramono Anung in recognition of his commitment to supporting the fulfilment of children’s rights and protection in Jakarta.
