Pramono Plans Temporary Zebra Crossing to Replace Tendean Footbridge Hit by Lorry

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has requested the Jakarta Transportation Agency to coordinate with the Ministry of Transportation to secure a permit for a temporary zebra crossing at the site of the Tendean footbridge, which was dismantled after being hit by a lorry. The zebra crossing is being prepared as a short-term solution.

Pramono stated that the construction of a new footbridge requires time. He emphasised that a zebra crossing is necessary to ensure pedestrian mobility remains served. “Because building a new footbridge takes time. But I have also ordered the immediate construction of a new footbridge,” he said at Jakarta City Hall on Friday.

The Jakarta Provincial Government is currently reviewing several financing schemes for the reconstruction of the Tendean footbridge. Options being considered include the regional budget, creative financing, corporate social responsibility funds, and naming rights. Pramono noted that the matter would be finalised in a meeting next week.

According to Pramono, the reconstruction of the Tendean footbridge cannot be prolonged. He mentioned that many residents need the footbridge to cross safely. “It cannot be delayed. It is a very strategic footbridge,” he said. The footbridge on Jalan Kapten Tendean in South Jakarta was previously damaged after being struck by a lorry on Tuesday and was subsequently dismantled as it was nearly collapsing.
