Pramono: Peace Does Not Always Emerge from Major International Forums
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that peace does not always emerge from major international forums, but begins with each individual through attitudes of mutual respect, acceptance of differences, and commitment to living together in diversity.
Pramono expressed this during his attendance at the Sacred Reflection Night for World Peace in the National Monument (Monas) area, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (18/4) evening, which carried the theme “A Sacred Night for World Peace and Global Harmony”.
He also appreciated Gema Sadhana for the initiative to create a space for interfaith togetherness. This event was seen as a forum for reflection, prayer, and strengthening humanitarian values amid global dynamics full of challenges.
“In Hindu teachings, we recognise the noble value of Ahimsa, the principle of non-violence, both in thought, word, and deed. This value teaches that true strength lies not in violence, but in love, empathy, and compassion,” he said in a press release in Jakarta on Sunday.
He also touched on the concept of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasises balance in human relationships with God, fellow humans, and nature. According to him, harmony will be realised when all three relationships are maintained.
As a global city, he continued, Jakarta has the responsibility to serve as an example in nurturing harmony amid diversity. For this reason, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to continuously strengthening unity and supporting interfaith and cultural activities.
He also emphasised that collaboration between government, society, and spiritual figures is key to building a peaceful and civilised life.
“I invite all of society not to stop at ceremonies, but to make these values part of daily life, spreading humanity, strengthening brotherhood, and bringing peace from the smallest environments,” he stated, while hoping that the prayers offered in this event bring goodness and blessings to humanity.
The Sacred Reflection Night for World Peace was also attended by the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty; the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Indonesia, Sashikala Premawardhane; Gema Sadhana General Chairman, Kobalen; and several officials in the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government environment.
