Jakarta, Indonesia – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung visited the residence of the late sixth Vice President of Indonesia, Try Sutrisno, in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 2 March 2026, to pay his final respects and express his condolences over the passing of the national figure.

Pramono’s visit was a mark of honour and a gesture of sympathy for the loss of the prominent statesman. “Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. As someone who knew Pak Try Sutrisno closely for a long time, I certainly feel this loss deeply. He was a father figure of the nation who embraced everyone,” Pramono said on Monday.

According to Pramono, Indonesia has lost a figure who dedicated his entire life to the nation and state until his final days. He recalled that his last meeting with Sutrisno took place approximately five to six months earlier, at which time the late leader remained actively engaged in his work at the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) and was known for his unwavering commitment to Pancasila values and the constitution.

“We have all lost someone who dedicated his life to the nation and state until his very last breath. We shall all miss Pak Try Sutrisno deeply,” Pramono stated.

Pramono also disclosed that Sutrisno’s health had deteriorated in recent times. He highlighted Sutrisno’s particular commitment to constitutional matters and Pancasila principles, which he said distinguished him from other national figures. “When it came to Pancasila and our constitution, he always held them firm. That is what set Pak Try Sutrisno apart from other leaders – constitutional matters were something deeply inherent in his life,” Pramono remarked.

Pramono added that the late Vice President maintained a close personal relationship with Indonesia’s fifth President, Megawati Soekarnoputri, and had engaged in discussions with her on several occasions. “I have also visited his residence. His condition had certainly declined recently, but his spirit never wavered,” he said.
