Pramono orders Kramat Jati Market clean-up after student dies in accident
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has asked the East Jakarta City Administration to carry out improvements in the Kramat Jati Market area.
The request came after the death of student Hammamshidqi Hammamut (18), who was a victim of a traffic accident.
“I have instructed the East Jakarta Mayor’s staff to immediately carry out improvements and prevention so that fish traders’ activities do not encroach on the road,” Pramono said at the Jakarta International Velodrome, East Jakarta, on Tuesday.
He said the accident occurred after the road surface became slippery due to water from fish traders’ activities around the market area.
The wet road conditions are believed to have caused the motorcycle ridden by the victim to skid, after which the victim was run over by a garbage truck belonging to the Jakarta Environmental Agency.
“Innalillahi wa Inna ilaihi rajiun. I extend my deepest condolences on the passing of the late Hammamshidqi Hammamut,” Pramono said.
“We are very concerned and must improve immediately so that such an incident does not happen again,” Pramono said.
He also asked the Civil Service Police Unit and the Jakarta Transport Agency to be involved in handling the area.
“Satpol PP and the Transport Agency must also work together to maintain order and safety at the location. Most importantly, the road must be safe and comfortable for all users, and potential causes of accidents must be prevented from the outset,” Pramono said.
He expressed hope that a similar incident would not recur, and that issues of cleanliness, trading activity and road surface conditions in the area must be handled in an integrated manner so as not to pose risks to the public.
“Yes, a traffic accident occurred involving a student with the initials HH which resulted in a fatality at 06.00 WIB on Jalan Raya Bogor southbound, in front of Rumah Makan Kuring, Kramat Jati Wholesale Market, East Jakarta,” said AKP Darwis Yunarta, Head of the Traffic Accident Unit at the East Jakarta Metro Police, when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Monday (17/8).
HH died after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in an accident with a dump truck.
The accident involved a Honda Beat motorcycle with registration number B 3122 SDL and a Sanitation Agency dump truck with registration number B 9728 TOQ.
The victim was initially riding the motorcycle from north to south on Jalan Raya Bogor. Upon arriving in front of Rumah Makan Kuring, the victim is believed to have had an accident due to slippery road conditions and fell to the right.
At the same time, a dump truck driven by AS was passing the scene and the victim was run over on the head or neck by the truck’s rear left wheel.
As a result of the accident, the victim suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. Officers then evacuated the victim to Bhayangkara TK I Pusdokkes Polri Hospital in East Jakarta for further examination.
