Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has instructed his staff to carry out weather modification operations (OMC) on Friday (21/8).

Pramono said that based on weather forecasts, rain clouds are expected, making modification possible tomorrow.

“If there are no clouds, it is impossible to conduct OMC. In carrying out OMC, for example, this coming Friday there will be clouds again. I have ordered preparations for Friday because there are clouds, so it should be readied for flight tomorrow,” Pramono said in South Jakarta on Thursday (20/8).

He said there is no guarantee that rain will fall on Friday despite the OMC. Pramono noted that the provincial government has conducted OMC several times, yet rain still did not fall.

“Whether it rains or not after the flight is not guaranteed. We have flown many times and there was no rain. That rain is God’s creation, yes, I certainly agree it is God’s creation,” he said.

However, Pramono said the provincial government will still carry out OMC on Friday. He said rain would benefit the public as long as it does not cause flooding.

“But if no effort is made, I think that is also not good. So I will proceed tomorrow. It happens that there will be clouds tomorrow. The weather forecast also predicts drizzle. Would it not be better if the drizzle is enhanced with salt or whatever it may be to become heavier rain that benefits the public? The most important thing is that it does not flood, that is all,” he said.
