Pramono orders immediate construction of command headquarters for Satpol PP
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has instructed his administration to coordinate the immediate construction of a proper command headquarters (Mako) for the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol XPP).
“I was just whispering with the Vice Governor and the Regional Secretary that it is unacceptable not to have a Mako. To be honest, I only just realised that there is no command headquarters for the Satpol PP that is truly respected in the Republic of Indonesia,” Pramono stated during his speech at the 76th Anniversary of the Satpol PP at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, on Tuesday.
He requested the Head of the Jakarta Provincial Satpol PP, Satriadi Gunawan, to immediately coordinate this initiative.
“Therefore, Mr Satriadi, please coordinate the Mako for Satpol PP immediately. The Vice Governor, the Regional Secretary, and I have discussed whether to use the current site in Cempaka Putih or a new location. There are two or three alternatives, which will be decided soon,” Pramono said.
Pramono mentioned that the construction of the Satpol PP headquarters will be discussed starting next week, with a target commencement date in early 2027. He expressed his strong desire for the headquarters to be built to a high and dignified standard, noting that as a frontline unit in maintaining Jakarta, the Satpol PP deserves its own facility.
He further noted that he has observed the Satpol PP adopting a more humanistic approach to their duties, contributing to a safer and more peaceful capital. “Currently, I see them being much more humanistic. As part of a global city, if the face of the Satpol PP is too intimidating, it creates discomfort. Therefore, we agree it is time for the Satpol PP to have a proper Mako. The planning must be completed by the end of this year at the latest,” Pramono explained.
Previously, the Head of the Jakarta Satpol PP, Satriadi Gunawan, expressed his hope that the unit would have its own representative office to support performance and improve the working comfort of field personnel.
“Jakarta does not yet have its own Satpol PP office. We are currently sharing space on the 16th floor of Blok H, City Hall. Sometimes, when there are visits from various regions, we still have to receive them at City Hall because we lack our own office,” Satriadi revealed.
He emphasised that having a dedicated office is vital, especially as Jakarta is a global city ranked as the second safest city in Southeast Asia, following Singapore. He hopes that a permanent office will allow for better monitoring of the unit’s 5,000 personnel.
“We already have land in Cempaka Putih. I also conveyed yesterday that this is very urgent to enable us to control our members. We have also proposed this to the Vice Governor during a recent visit,” Satriadi explained.
