The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has stated that he will not tolerate padel courts operating without official permits. He has requested that enforcement be carried out firmly and impartially.

“As a padel enthusiast myself, I have instructed the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), Mayors, sub-district heads, and other relevant parties to take firm action against anyone who does not have a Building Permit (PBG), as this is an absolute requirement,” said Pramono at the Education Department building in South Jakarta, Thursday (February 26).

According to him, the PBG is an absolute prerequisite that cannot be compromised. Without this document, any building is considered to be in violation of spatial planning regulations.

He emphasized that enforcing the rules is not just about administration, but also about maintaining consistency in urban planning.

He reminded that Jakarta has limited land, which must be managed in a disciplined manner, including preserving the function of the area.

“Therefore, order in development in Jakarta is also important, including open green spaces which are not allowed to be used for padel courts,” he stressed.

Previously, Pramono had set new requirements for the establishment of buildings and structures, especially for padel courts in Jakarta. One of these is that they should not be located within residential areas. They must also have a PBG, and if located in residential areas, their operating hours should be limited to 8:00 PM.

The Head of the Department of Public Works, Spatial Planning, and Land Affairs (Citata) of Jakarta, Vera Revina Sari, revealed that as of February 23, 2025, as many as 185 padel court buildings in Jakarta do not have official permits out of a total of 397 padel courts in Jakarta. (E-4)

The sport of padel has transformed from just a trend into a massive lifestyle in Jakarta.
