Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said one of the main problems they had faced was leaders’ egos.

“One of our main problems is the leaders’ egos,” Pramono said in a speech at the inauguration of An-Nur Floating Mosque in North Jakarta on Friday (16 October).

He made the remarks while discussing the early days after he was sworn in as Jakarta governor. Pramono recalled that he wanted to connect Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) with the Ancol area.

However, he said there had been communication problems between the parties responsible for each site.

“In the past, the president directors of JIS and Ancol couldn’t even meet and talk. They couldn’t even meet and talk. I asked, ‘Why can’t you meet, talk and solve the problem?’” he said.

Pramono said that once communication between the two improved, various issues were eventually resolved.

He cited concerts by artists including The Weeknd and Avenged Sevenfold, which were held at JIS recently.

He said the concerts went smoothly, with parking now available in Ancol and various forms of public transport also provided.

Pramono then praised the leaders of JIS and PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol for having reconciled and being able to meet.

“In the past they couldn’t even meet. I couldn’t understand it either — they couldn’t even meet. Fortunately, the governor is quite willing to meet anyone,” he said.
