Pramono on Transjakarta Head-On Collision: Driver Sleep-Deprived Due to Fasting
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the accident involving two Transjakarta bus units in a head-on collision on the Corridor 13 route between CBD Ciledug and Tegal Mampang was the result of human error caused by driver negligence due to fatigue.
“Actually, Transjakarta’s management is already quite well-organised. This was human error, nothing else,” Pramono said at Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, on Monday (23/2).
“It was human error — perhaps the driver was sleep-deprived because of fasting and so on, which caused the bus to cross over into the oncoming lane,” Pramono added.
Pramono said the accident was triggered by driver negligence after working for two consecutive days.
“He had been working for two days and was drowsy. Perhaps because he could not maintain control, the bus ended up entering the opposing lane,” he said.
Pramono said 23 passengers on the Transjakarta bus driven by A sustained minor injuries. The victims were rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
Pramono assured that Transjakarta management would take full responsibility for handling the incident, particularly for the victims.
“It should be noted that all victim costs will be fully covered by Transjakarta,” Pramono said.
The incident began when Transjakarta bus Bianglala B-7136-SGA, driven by Y, was travelling from Kebayoran towards Cipulir. Meanwhile, Transjakarta bus Mayasari Bhakti B-7353-TGC, driven by A, was heading from Cipulir towards Kebayoran.
In circulating video footage, both vehicles sustained considerable damage to their front sections. The collision was believed to be a head-on impact between the two buses travelling in opposite directions.
Head of Public Relations and CSR at Transjakarta, Ayu Wardhani, said the accident involved bus operator fleet units BMP 263 and MYS 17100 on Corridor 13, on the Swadarma section towards Cipulir.
“Transjakarta sincerely apologises for the accident involving bus operator fleet units BMP 263 and MYS 17100 on Corridor 13 (Swadarma section towards Cipulir) this morning. Our primary focus at this time is ensuring passenger safety,” she said in a written statement.
