Pramono on the Case of a Foreign National Being Robbed at Bundaran HI: The Perpetrator Should Be Punished Severely
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has responded to the case of a foreign national (WNA) from Italy, with the initials CL, being robbed of their phone near Hotel Indonesia roundabout (HI), Menteng, Central Jakarta.
He requested that the perpetrator be punished severely.
Pramono emphasised that Jakarta’s status as the second safest city in ASEAN must be maintained together.
He also expressed his full support for law enforcement officials to take action against acts of thuggery in Jakarta.
According to Pramono, severe punishment is needed to deter criminals.
“Therefore, I fully support the actions taken by law enforcement officials to take the severest possible action against these acts of thuggery,” Pramono continued.
At that time, the victim was waiting for an online ride on the side of the road.
The Head of Public Relations at the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Iptu Erlyn Sumantri, explained that the perpetrator arrived on a motorcycle and immediately snatched the victim’s phone.
“Initially, the foreign national ordered an online ride. They were waiting for the vehicle to arrive on the side of the road. Then, a motorcycle ridden by the perpetrator appeared,” said Erlyn when contacted by Kompas.com, Friday (15/5/2026).
“The perpetrator snatched the phone from the foreign national. After that, the foreign national chased after them,” she added.
As a result of the incident, the victim’s Motorola Neo 60 phone was stolen, and CL stumbled on the road while trying to chase after the perpetrator. The victim then reported the incident to the Menteng Police Station at around 8:00 PM.
Currently, two people suspected of being involved in the robbery have been arrested.
